Galasport sources understand that Tottenham have made an enquiry for Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar.

Pienaar has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park for some time as negotiations over a contract extension drag on.

He recently stated that he would be prepared to sign a new deal if fair terms could be agreed, but with the situation yet to be resolved Spurs have made their interest known.

Tottenham have contacted the Toffees to ask about the South African's availability, although a formal offer has not been lodged at this stage.

It now remains to be seen whether Spurs step up their pursuit ahead of Tuesday evening's transfer deadline or whether Everton have made it clear that Pienaar will not be going anywhere.

Harry Redknapp has insisted that he is happy with the squad currently at his disposal but could look to make a late addition to his ranks.
