Reports in Spain say former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho failed in a late attempt to sign Didier Drogba for Real Madrid on Tuesday.
El Mundo Deportivo claims Mourinho "begged" Real president Florentino Perez to sign the Chelsea striker, who he enjoyed a great relationship with while he was in charge at Stamford Bridge.
Real boss Mourinho was apparently seeking a new striker before the transfer window closed as he has doubts over back-up forward Karim Benzema and made an attempt to try and lure 32-year-old Drogba to the Bernabeu.
There was speculation earlier in the summer that Chelsea may have been prepared to listen to offers for the Ivory Coast star but they were quickly rebuffed by the club who have consistently maintained he is not for sale at any price.
